Warranty repair almost never replaces your computer with a new model (in all of the occurrences which I have heard of computer companies doing this, it was not only clear that this was not standard practice, but that the misery that the customers had to endure before this occurred far outweighed the benefit of a new laptop).

For a recent example of this, read "HP Replaces Missing Laptop After 3 Months."

I wish my 14" T43 had a higher screen resolution than its 1400x1050, so it is possible that I will go with the 15.4" widescreen T with the 1680x1050 resolution. It would be like my old Inspiron 9100, but without the heat (Pentium 4 with hyperthreading!) and weight (9+ pounds!).

What's the new computer going to be? Thinkpad, presumably? One of those widescreen Ts, or perhaps an X? I just ordered an X61s - it's nice except I wish the screen resolution came in SXGA+.

Incidentally, the "You have some hardware problem" screenshot is actually the result of gnome-power-manager and is not a hardware issue at all. Oops.
