Compiling AAC support in Ubuntu Dapper with GStreamer 0.10

A week or so ago, I switched from using Gentoo Linux to the latest devlopment version of Ubuntu Linux. Scheduled to be released in April 2006, "Dapper Drake" contains the latest "unstable" development versions of various Linux software. The music player I use, Rhythmbox, was updated to use version 0.10 of the GStreamer media playback [...]

The AutoLink Greasemonkey user script and data loss

Over the past few weeks, I have occasionally lost data when writing in Firefox. I believe that the first time I noticed this problem was while editing the Wikipedia article on Tibet. After fixing one small grammatical error, I realized that much of the section I had edited had somehow been deleted. Further investigation revealed [...]

Now Running WordPress 2.0.1

With the help of this excellent page listing the differences between WordPress 2.0 and WordPress 2.0.1, I have upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.0.1. It was relatively uneventful, so there is not much more to report.

Two Conversations Yesterday

…walking into Broadway Market…
Friend: You know, I really like Neutral Milk Hotel. I keep listening to "Two-Headed Boy."
Me: I like "Communist Daughter" myself.
…watching The O.C., listening to Sufjan Stevens' "For the Widows in Paradise; For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti" play as background music.

Gaim 2.0.0 Feature Freeze

Those people anxiously waiting for the next release of Gaim, the cross-platform, cross-protocol instant messaging client, should know that they do not have long to wait. From an email sent to the gaim-devel mailing list late on Sunday night, Gaim developer Mark Doliner asks that his fellow developers stop adding new features and strings to [...]

Most aggregators do not recognize these status codes (including Gregarius), so I set about [...]

Fashion and Weather Changes

Before Bits last Wednesday, a friends showed me the Crimson. "Look at this ridiculous article," he said, "it's about the weather. Apparently people change their clothes when it gets cold."
Faced with slushy, icy terrain on the Monday morning commute, students broke out bulky jackets and the occasional pair of moon boots. Shorts and flip-flops, which [...]

More on the Movie 'Garden State'

I previously wrote about my high expectations for the movie Garden State. In this entry, I talk about my thoughts after having seen the film.

HIR Blog

I was excited to see that the Harvard International Review, the magazine where I used to hold the position of Web Editor, now has its own blog, entitled The Big Picture.
I first noticed the magazine when I received a complimentary copy in the freshman mailing. I can recall being impressed by both its professional writing [...]
