Two gems from Sunday's New York Times Opinion section. Thomas Friedman exhorts voters to choose the heir of George H. W. Bush, the 41st president.
So as we approach this critical election of 2004, my advice, dear readers, is this: Vote for the candidate who embodies the ethos of George H. W. Bush - the old [...]

As I have noted before, the one election result that I think is more untenable than a Bush victory would be for both candidates to get 269 votes. I do not expect that a close election will bring about civil war, but the elections in 2006 and 2008 would definitely be more partisan than this [...]

I wish I could say something snarky like, "Ohio is the New Florida," or, "It's all up to Walden O'Dell now," but this situation is too troubling for humor. I am going to bed, where I hope I will not wake to a nightmare.

Not only is Firefox 1.0 RC2 coming out tomorrow, but Thunderbird 0.9 has been released. For all of those crazy Mac users out there, Camino 0.82 candidate builds are available.
Life goes on. Mozilla-related browser development continues. Someday I will get around to creating my own builds (since I would like a later build of Sunbird, [...]

This week: Ashcroft resigned, Arafat died, Firefox 1.0 came out - with a customized start page, GMail got POP3 access, and the Nader/Camejo people responded to the email I sent them several months ago.
On a hopeful note (at least for those who do not want the world to end anytime soon), Ashcroft's resignation is surely [...]

Sanby Lee's article from last Tuesday's Crimson takes an interesting view of last week's election results - that the fact Bush won is not as important as the various problems of the Third World, including poverty, genocide, and the general repression of freedoms. I partially agree (Americans all too often ignore economic and social problems [...]

This is the fifth time that I have written about Wirehog on this blog. This is also the first time I have seen Wirehog in action (users of TheFacebook from Harvard and Stanford can download Build 650). Alas, I am not impressed.
To be blunt, the UI is horrible. The "little piggy" icons are wonderful (you [...]

How does it snow for the first time in Cambridge before it snows in Helsinki?
For those keeping score at home, Helsinki is so cold that its harbour freezes over during the winter.

From a post on Michel's blog, I "rediscovered" (I browsed it some time ago, but was busy) freeculture.org. There is still no Harvard chapter, which irks me; I assumed someone else would have started one.
I do not really have time to start a club, but I just might have to make some…

Joey deVilla has scanned the entire 17-page comic "I am Curious (BLACK)!," which I previously wrote about back in February. This comic is bizarre enough that it is impossible to talk about all of the strange things that happen. Just go read it.

Jim Holt's article in today's New York Times Magazine has an unique plan for Blue Staters weary of Republican political control: adopting a pro-states' rights platform.
There are big differences among the states, as the last election showed — differences in their understanding of tolerance, in their attitude toward the role of religion in public life, [...]

When I first posted about blackspot sneakers back in July, I had just decided to buy them. In August, I ordered a pair. Now, I am actually wearing the freaking things.
They smell sort of funny (I assume it is a "new shoe" smell, rather than a "this shoe was made from organic materials" smell) and [...]

From Pitchfork's listing of Bright Eyes' tour for their upcoming album I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning:
01-24 Cambridge, MA - Sanders Theatre, Harvard University
The perfect concert for the day before the end of final exams - I envision a horde of teenage girls screaming for their "Conor!!!!11"

When I read on Erik's blog that Sage 1.3 was released with Live Bookmark support, I was ecstatic. I immediately converted all of my RSS feeds from normal bookmarks to Live Bookmarks (it was as simple as editing bookmarks.html - the file where Firefox stores your bookmarks - and changing all incidences of HREF to [...]
