It is neither a matter of hatred for Linux, nor of any particular affection for Windows. It is (unfortunately) simpler to use Windows. While I could spend the time figuring about how to fix external displays (which flicker on and off about three times a second under my current xorg.conf), wireless (which works, but must be manually restarted every time the card loses association with the access point), and Remedy (the Java applet is ridiculously slow; but the Windows client seems to work well).
I bought an external Firewire drive from NewEgg today. When it arrives, I will offload all of my data and reinstall XP. In several ways, it is a shame.

don't blame you, I went through about the same cycle when I realised I was spending more time "fixing" and "customising" than actually working and making money. In the end I ditched Linux in favour of Windows XP BUT I kept OpenOffice, Mozilla, Firefox, MySQL and various web applications. So time spent with Linux was certainly benefitial, but at this particular point in time, I don't have time for messing about with Linux any more.
I blogged my 2 weeks of exclusively using Linux if you're interested. Painful, but useful.
